Forms & Strengths
- Dental gel: 1.25% (12.5 mg/g)
- Dental solution: 0.1% to 2%
Adult Dosing
- Topical dental gel: Apply approx. 0.5 g to teeth once weekly
- Brush teeth with gel for 1-2 minutes, then spit out and rinse lightly
- Professional dental application: As directed by dental professional
Pediatric Dosing
- Children <6 years: Use only under professional supervision to avoid swallowing
- Children >=6 years: Same as adult dosing regimen
Indications
- Prevention of dental caries
- Prophylaxis of hypersensitive tooth necks
- Remineralization of early enamel lesions
Mechanism of Action
- Organic fluoride compound that dissociates to release fluoride ions
- Promotes remineralization of dental enamel
- Inhibits plaque metabolism and bacterial acid production
- Forms a calcium fluoride protective layer on the tooth surface
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to olaflur or other amine fluorides
- Pathological changes of the oral mucosa
- Patients unable to control swallowing reflex (risk of acute fluorosis)
Adverse Reactions
- Rare allergic reactions of the oral mucosa
- Contact dermatitis with prolonged skin contact
- Burning sensation or irritation in the oral cavity upon high concentrations
Drug Interactions
- Systemic fluoride intake (e.g., fluoride tablets) should be reduced when using high-concentration topical fluorides
- Calcium, magnesium, or aluminum salts may reduce the absorption of topical fluoride ions if administered simultaneously
