Adult Dosing
- 200 mg orally two to three times daily
- Maximum daily dose: 600 mg
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Gastritis
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Mechanism of Action
- Imidazopyridine derivative acting as a gastroprotective and antisecretory agent
- Enhances gastric mucosal defense mechanisms and mucus production
- Moderate inhibition of gastric acid secretion
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to zolimidine or other imidazopyridine derivatives
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Active gastrointestinal hemorrhage
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Mild gastrointestinal discomfort
- Allergic skin rashes
Drug Interactions
- Antacids may decrease absorption of zolimidine
- Potential for altered metabolism with potent CYP450 inducers or inhibitors
- Concomitant use with other ulcerogenic drugs (e.g., NSAIDs) may counteract gastroprotective efficacy
