Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 100mg, 200mg, 300mg
- Capsules: 100mg, 200mg
- Oral solution: 20mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- Initial dose: 200mg three times daily
- Maintenance dose: 100-300mg three times daily
- Maximum daily dose: 600-900mg
Pediatric Dosing
- Children under 5 years: not recommended
- Children 5-12 years: 100mg three times daily
- Adolescents 13-18 years: 200mg three times daily
Indications
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Functional dyspepsia
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
- Peptic ulcer disease
Mechanism of Action
- Antimuscarinic and musculotropic properties
- Enhances gastrointestinal motility
- Relaxes the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trimebutine or its excipients
- Gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation
- Severe liver impairment
- Severe kidney impairment
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
- Cardiovascular: palpitations, tachycardia, hypotension
- Central nervous system: dizziness, drowsiness, headache
Drug Interactions
- Alcohol: increases risk of gastrointestinal symptoms
- Antacids and histamine-2 blockers: reduces absorption of trimebutine
- Anticholinergic agents: enhances anticholinergic effects
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors: enhances risk of CNS depression
