Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 50mg, 100mg
- Capsules: 100mg
- Suspension: 50mg/5mL
Adult Dosing
- 50-100mg orally twice daily
- Maximum dose: 200mg/day
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- 12-18 years: 50mg orally twice daily
Indications
- Functional dyspepsia
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Gastrointestinal spasm
Mechanism of Action
- Anticholinergic and musculotropic properties
- Relaxation of smooth muscle in gastrointestinal tract
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to pinaverium or excipients
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
- Myasthenia gravis
- Megacolon
Adverse Reactions
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Constipation
- Urinary retention
Drug Interactions
- Enhanced anticholinergic effects with other anticholinergics
- Reduced efficacy of levodopa when used concomitantly
