Forms & Strengths
- Oral capsules 100 mg
- Suppositories 200 mg
Adult Dosing
- Capsules: 100 mg orally 2 to 3 times daily before meals
- Suppositories: 200 mg rectally 1 to 2 times daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients; use not recommended
Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of pain related to functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and biliary system
- Spastic conditions of the visceral smooth muscle
Mechanism of Action
- Acts as a musculotropic antispasmodic on visceral smooth muscle
- Regulates intracellular calcium flux and modulates muscular contraction without anticholinergic side effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fenoverine or excipients
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Severe renal impairment
- History of unexplained hyperthermia or myopathy
Adverse Reactions
- Mild gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, dyspepsia)
- Dizziness or drowsiness
- Rare cases of transient elevations in liver enzymes
- Very rare reports of skeletal muscle toxicity and rhabdomyolysis
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of myotoxicity when co-administered with lipid-lowering agents such as statins or fibrates
- Potential additive CNS depressant effects with alcohol, sedatives, or hypnotics
