Forms & Strengths
- 150mg tablet
- 50mg tablet
- 100mg injection
Adult Dosing
- 150mg orally 1-3 hours before chemotherapy
- 50mg IV 30 minutes to 1 hour before chemotherapy
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- Use in children not recommended
Indications
- Prevention of acute and delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting
Mechanism of Action
- Selective NK1 receptor antagonist
- Blocks the action of substance P at the NK1 receptor
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to casopitant or any component of the product
- Concomitant use with pimozide
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
Drug Interactions
- Pimozide: increased risk of QT prolongation
- Ketoconazole and other strong CYP3A4 inhibitors: increased casopitant plasma concentrations
- Rifampicin: decreased casopitant plasma concentrations
