Forms & Strengths
- Capsules: 50mg
- Oral suspension: 25mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- Primary bile acid diarrhea: 750mg twice daily
- Primary sclerosis cholangitis: 750mg twice daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for patients under 18 years of age
Indications
- Treatment of primary bile acid diarrhea
- Treatment of primary sclerosis cholangitis
Mechanism of Action
- Norursodeoxycholic acid, a secondary bile acid, inhibits bile acid synthesis and enhances bile acid conjugation
- Has FXR agonist and TGR5 agonist activity
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to norursodeoxycholic acid or any component
- Liver cirrhosis or severe liver dysfunction
Adverse Reactions
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Fatigue
Drug Interactions
- Bile acid sequestrants may decrease norursodeoxycholic acid absorption
- Concomitant use with antacids or histamine-2 receptor antagonists may decrease norursodeoxycholic acid absorption
