Adult Dosing
- 300 mg orally three times daily before meals
- Duration of treatment determined by clinical response and hepatobiliary indication
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- Not recommended for use in children
Indications
- Choleretic agent for the treatment of biliary tract disorders
- Adjunctive management of dyskinesia of the biliary system
Mechanism of Action
- Stimulates hepatic bile flow and enhances biliary excretion of water and electrolytes
- Acts as a choleretic to improve hepatobiliary function and facilitate lipid digestion
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to piprozolin or related compounds
- Complete mechanical biliary obstruction
- Severe acute or chronic hepatocellular insufficiency
Adverse Reactions
- Mild gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea)
- Transient elevations in serum transaminases
- Allergic skin reactions in sensitive individuals
Drug Interactions
- May alter the absorption of concurrently administered oral medications due to increased gastrointestinal motility and bile flow
- Potential additive hepatotoxicity with other known hepatotoxic drugs
