Forms & Strengths
- Bisacodyl 10mg + Senna 15mg tablet
- Bisacodyl 5mg + Senna 7.5mg tablet
- Bisacodyl 10mg + Senna 15mg suppository
Adult Dosing
- 1-2 tablets orally at bedtime for constipation
- 1 suppository rectally at bedtime for constipation
Pediatric Dosing
- 6-12 years: 1/2 to 1 tablet orally at bedtime
- Under 6 years: not recommended
Indications
- Constipation
- Bowels preparation for surgery or exam
Mechanism of Action
- Bisacodyl: stimulates bowel movements
- Senna: increases intestinal peristalsis
Contraindications
- Intestinal obstruction
- Undiagnosed abdominal pain
- Hypersensitivity to ingredients
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal cramps
- Diarrhea
- Electrolyte imbalance
Drug Interactions
- Antacids: reduce absorption of bisacodyl
- Warfarin: interaction with bisacodyl and senna possible
- Diuretics: increase risk of electrolyte imbalance
