- 125mg delayed release tablets
Adult Dosing
- 125mg twice daily
- taken with or without food
Pediatric Dosing
- not established for patients under 18 years
- use with caution in elderly with renal impairment
Indications
- diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D)
- HIV/AIDS-related diarrhea
- chemotherapy-induced diarrhea
Mechanism of Action
- inhibits chloride ion secretion
- reduces intestinal fluid secretion
- normalizes stool consistency
Contraindications
- none known
- use with caution in renal impairment
Adverse Reactions
- flatulence
- abdominal pain
- -upper respiratory tract infection
- constipation
Drug Interactions
- not significant with oral contraceptives
- not significant with warfarin
- potential interaction with CYP1A2 substrates
