Forms & Strengths
- Camostat mesilate: 100 mg oral tablets
Adult Dosing
- Chronic pancreatitis: 100 mg orally 3 times daily before meals
- Postoperative reflux pancreatitis: 100 mg orally 3 times daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Improvement of acute exacerbations of chronic pancreatitis
- Postoperative reflux pancreatitis
Mechanism of Action
- Protease inhibitor that inhibits trypsin, kallikrein, plasmin, and thrombin
- Suppresses pancreatic exocrine secretion and reduces inflammation in pancreatic tissue
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to camostat mesilate or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- Hyperkalemia
- Leukopenia, eosinophilia
- Elevated hepatic enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP, LDH)
- Nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea
- Rash, pruritus
Drug Interactions
- Heparin and anticoagulant agents: May theoretically increase bleeding risk due to anti-thrombin and anti-plasmin activity
- ACE inhibitors: May potentiate hyperkalemia risk
