Indications
- Treatment of atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response
- Treatment of congestive heart failure
- Control of ventricular rate in patients with atrial fibrillation
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits sodium-potassium ATPase, increasing intracellular sodium and calcium
- Increases force of cardiac contractions and reduces conduction velocity
Contraindications

- Hypersensitivity to digoxin or other cardiac glycosides
- Severe sinoatrial block or second- or third-degree atrioventricular block
Adverse Reactions
- Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- Headache, fatigue, weakness
- Visual disturbances, arrhythmias, heart block
Drug Interactions
- Quinidine: increases digoxin toxicity
- Amiodarone, verapamil, and diltiazem: increase digoxin levels
- Succinylcholine: increases risk of VT
