Forms & Strengths
- Injectable solution
- Tablets: 5mg, 10mg
- Oral solution: 1mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- Acute atrial fibrillation: 0.1-0.2mg slowly IV
- Chronic heart failure: 2.5-5mg orally twice daily
- Supraventricular tachycardia: 0.1-0.2mg slowly IV
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for children under 18 years
- Use with caution in pediatric patients due to limited data
Indications
- Atrial fibrillation
- Atrial flutter
- Supraventricular tachycardia
- Chronic heart failure
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits sodium-potassium ATPase
- Increases intracellular sodium and calcium
- Enhances vagal tone and cardiac contractility
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to proscillaridin or digitalis
- Ventricular fibrillation
- AV block
- Severe renal impairment
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Arrhythmias
- Digitalis toxicity
Drug Interactions
- Beta blockers: increased risk of bradycardia
- Calcium channel blockers: increased risk of arrhythmias
- Quinidine: increased risk of digitalis toxicity
- Thyroid hormones: altered response to proscillaridin
