Forms & Strengths
- Capsules: 100mg, 150mg
- Tablets: 100mg, 150mg
Adult Dosing
- 150-300mg orally every 6 hours
- Initial dose: 100mg every 6 hours, titrate as needed
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- 12-18 years: 6-15mg/kg/day orally in divided doses
Indications
- Ventricular arrhythmias
- Atrial fibrillation
- Atrial flutter
- Supraventricular tachycardia
Mechanism of Action
- Class Ia antiarrhythmic agent
- Blocks sodium channels
- Prolongs repolarization
- Decreases phase 0 upstroke velocity
Contraindications
- Severe hypokalemia
- Severe hypomagnesemia
- AV block
- Sick sinus syndrome
Adverse Reactions
- Dry mouth
- Urinary retention
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Ventricular proarrhythmia
Drug Interactions
- Increases digoxin levels
- Increases theophylline levels
- Enhances warfarin anticoagulation
- Concomitant use with other antiarrhythmics may increase proarrhythmic risk
