Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 60mg, 90mg
- Soft gelatin capsules: 60mg
- Injectable solution: 30mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- 30-90mg orally 2-3 times a day
- IV: 30mg over 2 minutes, repeated as needed
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- 12-18 years: same as adult dosing, under close supervision
Indications
- Treatment of angina pectoris
- Prophylaxis of angina attacks
Mechanism of Action
- Slow calcium channel blocker
- Inhibits calcium influx into cardiac muscles and vascular smooth muscles
- Dilates coronary arteries, reduces cardiac workload and oxygen demand
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to carbocromen or other calcium channel blockers
- Severe left ventricular dysfunction
- Unstable angina or recent myocardial infarction
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Flushing
- Nausea and vomiting
- Peripheral edema
Drug Interactions
- Additive effects with other calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, or nitrates
- Increased risk of hypotension with concomitant use of ACE inhibitors or alpha blockers
