Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg
- Extended-release tablets: 10mg, 20mg
- Sublingual tablets: 2mg
Adult Dosing
- Initial dose: 5-10mg twice daily
- Maintenance dose: 10-20mg twice daily
- Maximum dose: 40mg/day
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for children under 18 years old
- Use in pediatric patients is not recommended
Indications
- Treatment of angina pectoris
- Improvement of symptoms in patients with chronic angina
Mechanism of Action
- Potassium channel activator
- Nitrate moiety causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
- Increases blood flow and reduces cardiac preload
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nicorandil or any component
- Open-angle glaucoma
- Severe hypotension
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Mouth ulcers
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Hypotension
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of hypotension with phosphodiesterase inhibitors
- Concomitant use with riociguat is contraindicated
- Monitor for increased hypotensive effects with concomitant use of other vasodilators
