Adult Dosing
- 500-1000mg daily for NYHA I-II heart failure
- 160-900mg daily for mild hypertension
- 900-1800mg in divided doses for coronary heart disease
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in children
- Not recommended for use under 18 years old
Indications
- Mild heart failure (NYHA I-II)
- Hypertension
- Angina pectoris
- Cardiac arrhythmias
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibition of phosphodiesterase
- Increase in myocardial contractility
- Vasodilation
- Inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Crataegus species
- Aortic stenosis
- Constrictive pericarditis
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
Drug Interactions
- Increase digoxin toxicity
- Enhance effects of beta blockers
- Interact with antihypertensives
- Inhibit effects of cardiac glycosides
