Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 30mg, 60mg
- Injectable solution: 25mg/5mL, 50mg/10mL
Adult Dosing
- Hypertension: initial dose 30-60mg orally once daily, adjust as needed
- Acute hypertension: 25mg IV bolus, may repeat after 30 minutes
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for patients under 18 years of age
Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- Acute management of severe hypertension when oral therapy is not feasible
Mechanism of Action
- Alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist
- 5-HT1A receptor agonist
- Causes vasodilation, decreases peripheral resistance
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to urapidil
- Pregnancy, especially third trimester
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Orthostatic hypotension
Drug Interactions
- Enhanced hypotensive effect with other antihypertensives
- Increased risk of hypotension with anesthetics, sedatives
- Caution with MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants
