trichlormethiazide and potassium
C03AB06
Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: trichlormethiazide 5mg and potassium 30mEq
- Tablets: trichlormethiazide 5mg and potassium 40mEq
Adult Dosing
- 1-2 tablets daily, as a single dose or in divided doses
- Titrate dose based on patient response and serum potassium levels
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for pediatric patients under 12 years of age
- For children over 12 years of age, use adult dosing with caution
Indications
- Treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure
- Treatment of edema associated with hepatic cirrhosis

- Treatment of nephrotic syndrome
- Hypertension management
Mechanism of Action
- Trichlormethiazide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule
- Potassium replenishment helps maintain normal serum potassium levels
- Synergistic effect to promote diuresis and manage fluid balance
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trichlormethiazide or potassium
- Anuria or oliguria
- Hyperkalemia
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
Adverse Reactions
- Hypokalemia if potassium component is inadequate
- Hyperkalemia if excessive potassium is administered
- Hypotension
- Increased uric acid levels
- Impaired glucose tolerance
- Electrolyte imbalances
Drug Interactions
- Potassium-sparing diuretics: increased risk of hyperkalemia
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors: increased risk of hyperkalemia
- Digitalis glycosides: increased risk of digitalis toxicity with hypokalemia
- Lithium: increased lithium levels
