Adult Dosing
- 25-50mg PO qd, titrate to 100-200mg PO qd
- Use lowest dose for diuretic effect
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the ascending limb of the loop of Henle
- Increases renal excretion of sodium, chloride, potassium, and water
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tienilic acid
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30mL/min)
- Hepatic encephalopathy
Adverse Reactions
- Hypokalemia
- Hyperglycemia
- Hyperuricemia
- Headache
- Dizziness
Drug Interactions
- Lithium: increased lithium levels
- Aminoglycosides: increased risk of ototoxicity
- Digoxin: increased risk of digitalis toxicity
