Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 1mg
- Oral solution: 1mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- Initial dose: 1mg three times daily
- Maintenance dose: 3-6mg daily in divided doses
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for children under 12 years
- For children 12 years and older, use adult dosage
Indications
- Dementia
- Age-related cognitive decline
- Cerebrovascular insufficiency
Mechanism of Action
- Stimulates dopamine receptors
- Increases cerebral blood flow
- Enhances neurotransmitter activity
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ergoloid mesylates
- Pregnancy and lactation
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Fatigue
Drug Interactions
- Interacts with dopamine antagonists
- May enhance hypotensive effects with antihypertensives
- Concomitant use with CNS stimulants not recommended
