Forms & Strengths
- Injectable solution, 50 units/2ml
- Injectable solution, 100 units/4ml
Adult Dosing
- 2ml (50 units) IV, 1-2 times a day
- Start with low dose, adjust according to blood pressure response
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- Use with caution in pediatric patients, consider alternative treatments
Indications
- Treatment of essential hypertension
- Treatment of hypertension in patients with renal disease
Mechanism of Action
- Conversion of kininogen to bradykinin, a vasodilator
- Increases prostaglandin and nitric oxide production, reducing blood pressure
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to kallidinogenase or any component of the formulation
- Pregnancy, especially during the 1st trimester, due to potential fetal harm
Adverse Reactions
- Hypotension, headache, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting
- Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, angioedema, and rash
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant use with ACE inhibitors, may increase risk of hypotension
- Concomitant use with diuretics, may increase risk of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance
