cinepazide
C04AX27
Forms & Strengths
- Injectable solution 100 mg/2 mL
- Oral tablets 100 mg
- Oral tablets 200 mg
Adult Dosing
- Oral: 100 to 200 mg three times daily after meals.
- Intravenous/Intramuscular: 100 to 200 mg daily administered in divided doses or slow infusion for acute cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular disorders.
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established; use is generally restricted to adults.
Indications
- Treatment of cerebral vascular insufficiency (cerebral ischemia, sequelae of cerebrovascular accidents)
- Peripheral vascular disease (intermittent claudication, Raynaud's syndrome)
- Cochleovestibular disorders of vascular origin (tinnitus, vertigo)
Mechanism of Action
- Acts as a vasodilator and calcium channel modulator that relaxes vascular smooth muscle.
- Improves microcirculation by increasing erythrocyte deformability and reducing blood viscosity.
- Enhances cerebral and peripheral blood flow without significantly altering systemic blood pressure.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cinepazide or any component of the formulation
- Acute cerebral hemorrhage
- Severe hypotension or shock
- Recent myocardial infarction with severe hemodynamic instability
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, epigastric discomfort
- Nervous System: Dizziness, headache, drowsiness, paresthesia
- Cardiovascular: Flushing, palpitations, transient hypotension
- Hepatic: Transient elevation of liver transaminases
- Hypersensitivity: Skin rash, pruritus
Drug Interactions
- Antihypertensive agents: May enhance blood pressure-lowering effects, leading to additive hypotension.
- Vasodilators: Concurrent use may increase the risk of pronounced vasodilation and associated symptoms.
- Central nervous system depressants: May potentiate sedative effects.
