Adult Dosing

Sclerotherapy of small uncomplicated varicose veins of the lower extremity: 0.5 mL to 2 mL per injection site
Maximum total volume per session should not exceed 10 mL

Pediatric Dosing

Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established

Indications

Treatment of small uncomplicated varicose veins of the lower extremity that are visible and require obliteration

Mechanism of Action

Acts as a sclerosing agent that irritates the intima of the vein
Causes localized endothelial damage leading to thrombus formation and eventual fibrosis of the vein

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to sodium tetradecyl sulfate or any component of the formulation
Acute superficial thrombophlebitis
Valvular incompetence
Known severe arterial disease
Patients with marked debility or bedridden status
Conditions predisposing to venous thrombosis (e.g., hypercoagulable states)
Pregnancy

Adverse Reactions

Injection site necrosis
Pain at the injection site
Urticaria
Pruritus
Skin pigmentation (hyperpigmentation at the site)
Telangiectatic matting
Deep vein thrombosis
Pulmonary embolism
Anaphylaxis

Drug Interactions

Concurrent use with oral contraceptives may increase the risk of thromboembolism
Other sclerosing agents or vasoconstrictors may increase the risk of local tissue necrosis if used concurrently
