Adult Dosing
- Hypertension: 5 mg once daily, taken in the morning; may be increased to 10 mg daily if needed.
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.
Mechanism of Action
- Non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA), reducing heart rate and myocardial contractility.
Contraindications
- Second- or third-degree atrioventricular block
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Overt cardiac failure
- Cardiogenic shock
- Severe bradycardia (<50 bpm)
- Hypersensitivity to tertatolol
Adverse Reactions
- Fatigue
- Bradycardia
- Dizziness
- Cold extremities
- Sleep disturbances
- Nausea
Drug Interactions
- Calcium channel blockers (verapamil, diltiazem): risk of severe bradycardia and AV block
- Antiarrhythmic agents (disopyramide, amiodarone): enhanced negative inotropic and chronotropic effects
- Insulin and oral antidiabetic agents: may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia (tachycardia)
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): may decrease the antihypertensive effect of beta-blockers
