Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 5mg, 10mg
- Extended-release tablets: 10mg, 20mg
Adult Dosing
- Hypertension: 5-10mg once daily, titrate to 10-20mg once daily as needed
- Angina: 10mg once daily, titrate to 20mg once daily as needed
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in patients under 18 years
Indications
- Hypertension
- Chronic stable angina pectoris
- Vasospastic angina pectoris
Mechanism of Action
- L-type calcium channel blocker
- Selective inhibition of calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle cells and cardiac muscle cells
- Dilates coronary and peripheral arteries
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cilnidipine or other dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers
- Severe aortic stenosis
- Acute myocardial infarction or unstable angina
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Flushing
- Peripheral edema
- Palpitations
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
Drug Interactions
- Other calcium channel blockers: increased risk of hypotension and edema
- Beta blockers: increased risk of hypotension and bradycardia
- CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole): increased cilnidipine plasma levels
- CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampicin, phenobarbital): decreased cilnidipine plasma levels
