Forms & Strengths
- 40 mg tablets
- 80 mg tablets
Adult Dosing
- Initial dose: 40 mg once daily
- Maintenance dose: 40-80 mg once daily
- Max dose: 80 mg once daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for patients under 18 years old
Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- May be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents
Mechanism of Action
- Selective angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB)
- Blocks the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to azilsartan or any component of the product
- Do not co-administer aliskiren with azilsartan in patients with diabetes
Adverse Reactions
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Increased creatinine
Drug Interactions
- Lithium: increased lithium levels
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): decreased antihypertensive effect
- Potassium-sparing diuretics: increased risk of hyperkalemia
