Forms & Strengths
- Capsules: 500mg
- Tablets: 200mg, 300mg, 500mg
Adult Dosing
- Hyperlipidemia: 200-500mg/day
- Typical starting dose: 200mg/day
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for pediatric patients
- Avoid use in children under 12 years old
Indications
- Hypertriglyceridemia
- Mixed hyperlipidemia
- Type IIa and IIb hyperlipoproteinemia
Mechanism of Action
- Activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPARα)
- Increases lipolysis and clearance of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to etofibrate or fenofibrate
- Severe kidney or liver dysfunction
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Muscle pain and weakness
- Increased liver enzymes
- Allergic reactions
Drug Interactions
- Cyclosporine: increased risk of nephrotoxicity
- Warfarin: increased anticoagulant effect
- HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors: increased risk of myopathy
