Adult Dosing
- Apply thinly to affected areas 2 to 3 times daily
- Duration of therapy typically 2 to 4 weeks depending on infection site
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients not extensively established
- Use with caution in children if prescribed by a specialist, applying sparingly
Indications
- Treatment of superficial fungal infections of the skin
- Dermatophytosis
- Cutaneous candidiasis
Mechanism of Action
- Acts as an antifungal antibiotic produced by Paecilomyces variotii
- Inhibits fungal cell membrane synthesis and disrupts cellular permeability
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to pecilocin or any component of the formulation
- Ophthalmic use
- Use in primary bacterial or viral skin infections
Adverse Reactions
- Local skin irritation
- Pruritus
- Erythema at application site
- Allergic contact dermatitis
Drug Interactions
- Minimal systemic absorption limits significant systemic drug interactions
- Avoid concurrent use of other topical agents on the same skin area to prevent vehicle incompatibilities or enhanced irritation
