Forms & Strengths
- Topical cream 1%
- Topical solution 1%
- Topical powder 1%
- Vaginal tablets 100mg
- Vaginal cream 2%
Adult Dosing
- Apply topical 2-3 times daily
- Vaginal tablets: 100mg intravaginally at bedtime for 7 days
- Vaginal cream: apply 2% intravaginally at bedtime for 7 days
Pediatric Dosing
- Topical: >3 years, apply 2-3 times daily
- Vaginal: not recommended for children under 12 years
Indications
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis
- Dermatophytosis
- Cutaneous candidiasis
- Pityriasis versicolor
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits fungal cytochrome P450
- Disrupts fungal cell membrane
- Interferes with fungal sterol synthesis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or imidazoles
- Vaginal use during first trimester of pregnancy
Adverse Reactions
- Vulvar or vaginal irritation
- Itching or burning sensation
- Skin redness or rash
- Allergic contact dermatitis
Drug Interactions
- Tacrolimus: increased risk of nephrotoxicity
- CYP3A4 inhibitors: increased clotrimazole levels
