Forms & Strengths
- Topical cream 1%
- Topical solution 1%
Adult Dosing
- Apply to affected skin areas once daily for 2 to 4 weeks
- Continue treatment for at least one week after clinical resolution
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients not extensively established
- Use with caution in children only under medical supervision
Indications
- Dermatophytosis (tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis)
- Cutaneous candidiasis
- Pityriasis versicolor
Mechanism of Action
- Broad-spectrum imidazole antifungal agent
- Inhibits lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, disrupting fungal ergosterol biosynthesis
- Leads to increased fungal cell membrane permeability and cell lysis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to flutrimazole or other imidazole antifungals
- Ophthalmic use
Adverse Reactions
- Local skin irritation
- Erythema
- Pruritus
- Burning sensation at application site
Drug Interactions
- Significant systemic interactions are unlikely due to minimal percutaneous absorption
- Avoid simultaneous application of other topical agents on the same skin site
