Adult Dosing
- apply to affected area twice daily
- treatment duration: 2-6 weeks
- max treatment duration: 6-8 weeks
Pediatric Dosing
- apply to affected area twice daily
- treatment duration: 2-6 weeks
- safety and efficacy in children under 2 years not established
Indications
- tinea pedis (athlete's foot)
- tinea cruris (jock itch)
- tinea corporis (ringworm)
- tinea barbae (barber's itch)
Mechanism of Action
- inhibits squalene epoxidase in fungal cell membrane
- disrupts fungal cell membrane synthesis
- fungal cell death occurs through accumulation of squalene
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to tolnaftate or excipients
- not for ophthalmic use
Adverse Reactions
- local irritation
- pruritus
- erythema
- skin burning
- contact dermatitis
Drug Interactions
- none reported
- may be used concomitantly with other topical antifungals
