Forms & Strengths

Topical cream 0.1%
Topical ointment 0.1%

Adult Dosing

Apply a thin film to the affected skin area 1 to 3 times daily
Reduce frequency as condition improves
Discontinue once resolution is achieved
Avoid continuous long-term treatment, especially on the face or under occlusive dressings

Pediatric Dosing

Safety and efficacy in infants and young children not well established
Use with caution in pediatric patients, applying the minimum effective amount for the shortest possible duration
Avoid use in diaper areas under occlusive conditions

Indications

Inflammatory skin conditions responsive to topical corticosteroids
Eczema
Contact dermatitis
Psoriasis (limited plaques)

Mechanism of Action

Glucocorticoid receptor agonist
Induces lipocortins (annexins) which inhibit phospholipase A2, reducing arachidonic acid synthesis
Suppresses migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reverses capillary dilation to decrease inflammation, pruritus, and vasoconstriction

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to fluprednidene or other corticosteroids
Tuberculous or syphilitic skin lesions
Viral skin infections (e.g., varicella, herpes simplex, herpes zoster)
Rosacea and perioral dermatitis
Bacterial and fungal skin infections without concurrent anti-infective therapy
Application to open wounds or ulcerated skin

Adverse Reactions

Skin atrophy
Striae
Telangiectasia
Hypertrichosis
Hypopigmentation
Perioral dermatitis
Allergic contact dermatitis
Secondary skin infections
Systemic effects from excessive absorption (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome) with prolonged or occlusive use

Drug Interactions

No significant pharmacokinetic drug interactions expected with topical application due to minimal systemic absorption
Concurrent use with other local immunosuppressants may enhance immunosuppressive effects at the application site
