Forms & Strengths

Adult Dosing
- apply topically 1-2 times daily
- 1-2% solution for skin infections
Pediatric Dosing
- apply topically 1 time daily
- 0.5-1% solution for skin infections in children >3 years
Indications
- skin infections
- burn wounds
- ulcers
Mechanism of Action
- broad-spectrum antibacterial
- inhibits bacterial DNA and protein synthesis
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to nitrofurals
- pregnancy at term
- infancy
Adverse Reactions
- allergic contact dermatitis
- skin irritation
- rash
Drug Interactions
- increased risk of nephrotoxicity with sulfonylureas
- cross-reactivity with other nitrofuran derivatives
