Forms & Strengths
- Suppository: 250mg, 500mg
- Tablet: 250mg, 500mg
Adult Dosing
- For amoebic dysentery and other intestinal infections: 250-500mg orally 3 times a day, or 250-500mg rectally at bedtime
- Duration of treatment: usually 5-10 days
Pediatric Dosing
- Children over 6 years: same as adult dose
- Children under 6 years: 125mg orally or rectally 3 times a day
Indications
- Amoebic dysentery
- Intestinal amoebiasis
- Bacterial vaginosis
- Trichomoniasis
Mechanism of Action
- Chlorquinaldol has amoebicidal and antibacterial properties
- Interferes with the energy metabolism of amoeba and bacterial cells
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to chlorquinaldol or any component of the formulation
- Pregnancy and lactation
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal upset
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Rash
- Pruritus
Drug Interactions
- May interact with antacids, reducing its efficacy
- May increase the risk of toxicity when used with other amoebicides
