Forms & Strengths
- Cream 2%
- Ointment 2%

- Tablets 250mg
- Tablets 500mg
Adult Dosing
- Skin infections: 3-4 times daily, topically
- Bacterial infections: 500mg orally, 3 times daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Children >1 year: 250-500mg orally, 3 times daily
- Infants <1 year: not recommended unless supervised by expert
Indications
- Impetigo
- Folliculitis
- Furuncles
- Sycosis barbae
- Infected dermatoses
- Osteomyelitis
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
- Binds to ribosomal subunit, blocking transpeptidation
- Bacteriostatic at low concentrations, bactericidal at high concentrations
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fusidic acid
- Liver dysfunction
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal upset
- Allergic reactions (rash, itching, urticaria)
- Hepatotoxicity
- Jaundice
Drug Interactions
- Warfarin: increased anticoagulant effect
- Cyclosporin: increased nephrotoxicity
- Statins: increased risk of myopathy
