Forms & Strengths
- Zinc bandage, medicated
- Zinc dressing, wound care
- Zinc oxide 20% impregnated gauze dressing
- Zinc paste bandage
Adult Dosing
- Apply topically as needed
- Cover wound with zinc bandage, secure with tape
Pediatric Dosing
- Use under medical supervision
- Same as adult dosing, consider child's age, weight, and wound size
Indications
- Wound care, minor cuts and scrapes
- Pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers
- Burns, first and second degree
Mechanism of Action
- Zinc supports wound healing by enhancing tissue repair
- Antimicrobial properties help control infection
- Protects wound from further irritation, promotes moist environment
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to zinc
- Allergy to any component of the dressing
Adverse Reactions
- Skin irritation, redness, or itching
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Delayed wound healing
Drug Interactions
- No known significant interactions
- May decrease absorption of certain topical medications
