Forms & Strengths
- gel 0.1%
- gel 0.3%
- cream 0.1%
- solution 0.1%
Adult Dosing
- apply a thin layer to affected areas once daily at bedtime
- gel or cream: 0.1% strength for mild to moderate acne
- gel: 0.3% strength for moderate to severe acne
Pediatric Dosing
- apply a thin layer to affected areas once daily at bedtime, starting at age 12
- gel or cream: 0.1% strength, children under 12 years not recommended
Indications
- treatment of acne vulgaris
- treatment of actinic keratosis
- treatment of fine wrinkles and skin discoloration
Mechanism of Action
- selective retinoid-like compound
- modulates keratinization and desquamation
- inhibits comedone formation
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to adapalene or any component
- eczema, sunburn, or irritated skin
Adverse Reactions
- skin irritation
- dryness
- erythema
- pruritus
- burning sensation
Drug Interactions
- may increase sensitivity to UV light, avoid concurrent use of photosensitizing medications
- may have additive effects with other topical products, use with caution
