Forms & Strengths
- 2% and 5% topical cream
- 2% and 5% topical solution
- combination products with tretinoin
Adult Dosing
- apply to affected areas 2-3 times daily
- do not exceed 2% concentration for facial skin
- do not exceed 5% concentration for non-facial skin
Pediatric Dosing
- limited data in pediatric patients under 12 years
- avoid use in children under 12 years due to lack of data
- same dosing as adults for patients 12 years and older
Indications
- treatment of solar lentigines
- treatment of ephelides
- treatment of melasma
- skin hyperpigmentation disorders
Mechanism of Action
- tyrosinase inhibition
- competitive inhibition of dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) oxidase
- reduction of melanin production
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to mequinol or any component
- history of vitiligo or other depigmentation disorders
Adverse Reactions
- skin irritation
- erythema
- dryness
- pruritus
- hypopigmentation
Drug Interactions
- increased risk of skin irritation with concurrent use of other skin products
- avoid concurrent use with benzoyl peroxide or other oxidizing agents
