Adult Dosing
- Acne: 250-500mg every 6 hours
- Infections: 250-500mg every 6 hours
- UTI: 250mg every 6 hours
- Gonorrhea: 1.5g stat
Pediatric Dosing
- Children >8 years: 25-50mg/kg/day in divided doses
- Children <8 years: contraindicated

- Acne vulgaris
- Bacterial infections
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhea
- Inflammatory acne
- Pneumonia
- Rosacea
- Syphilis
- Trachoma
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomal subunit
- Antibacterial, bacteriostatic
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to oxytetracycline or other tetracyclines
- Children <8 years
- Pregnancy, especially after 16 weeks gestation
- Breastfeeding

- Increased liver enzymes
- Renal impairment
Drug Interactions
- Avoid concurrent use with penicillins
- May increase the effects of warfarin
- May decrease the effects of oral contraceptives
- May interact with antacids, containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium
- May interact with iron supplements
