Forms & Strengths
- Vaginal cream 0.4% (40 mg/applicator)
- Vaginal suppository 80 mg
Adult Dosing
- One applicator (5g) of 0.4% cream intravaginally once daily for 7 days
- One 80mg suppository intravaginally once daily for 3 days
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in patients under 18 years of age
- Not recommended for use in pediatric patients
Indications
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC)
- Treatment of fungal infections of the vaginal mucosa
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase
- Interferes with fungal cell membrane synthesis, resulting in cell death
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to terconazole, other imidazoles, or any component of the product
- First trimester of pregnancy (unless benefits outweigh risks)
Adverse Reactions
- Headache (26%)
- Pruritus (10%)
- Abdominal pain (5-10%)
- Vaginal pain (5-10%)
- Local burning or itching
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant use with warfarin may increase prothrombin time
- May have reduced efficacy when used with oral contraceptives
