Forms & Strengths

Vaginal suppositories: 90 mg
Topical solution: 360 mg/g

Adult Dosing

Vaginal candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis: Insert 1 suppository vaginally every other day
Cervical erosions and wounds: Apply topical solution directly to the affected area for 1-3 minutes

Pediatric Dosing

Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients under 18 years of age

Indications

Treatment of vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis, and vaginal candidiasis
Cervical erosions and decubitus ulcers caused by pessaries
Hemostasis following biopsy or removal of cervical polyps

Mechanism of Action

Acts as a strong organic acid causing selective coagulation and precipitation of necrotic and pathologically altered tissue
Leaves healthy squamous epithelium unaffected
Exhibits antibacterial, antifungal, and hemostatic properties

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to policresulen or excipients
Use during menstruation
Concurrent use of other local vaginal treatments

Adverse Reactions

Local irritation, burning, or stinging sensation in the vagina
Dryness of the vaginal mucosa
Sloughing of necrotic tissue
Allergic contact dermatitis

Drug Interactions

Avoid concurrent administration of other topical vaginal medications to prevent localized chemical interactions
May alter the local vaginal environment affecting the efficacy of other local anti-infectives
