Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 0.1mg, 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg
- Vaginal suppositories: 0.1mg, 0.25mg, 0.5mg
- Cream: 0.01%
Adult Dosing
- 1mg orally once daily
- 0.1-0.5mg vaginally 1-2 times daily
- Apply cream topically 1-2 times daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for use in pediatric patients
Indications
- Vasomotor symptoms of menopause
- Atrophic vaginitis
- Kraurosis vulvae
Mechanism of Action
- Estrogen receptor agonist
- Increases estrogenic activity
Contraindications
- Pregnancy
- Breast cancer
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Severe liver disease
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Breast tenderness
- Endometrial hyperplasia
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of thrombosis with warfarin
- Decreased efficacy of oral contraceptives
