Forms & Strengths
- Oral tablets: 100 mg
- Oral tablets: 200 mg
Adult Dosing
- Anovulatory infertility: 200 mg to 400 mg daily administered orally in divided doses for 5 to 10 days, typically starting on day 5 of the menstrual cycle.
- Oligospermia: 200 mg to 600 mg daily orally for several weeks or months.
Pediatric Dosing
- Not indicated for pediatric use.
Indications
- Treatment of anovulatory infertility in women
- Treatment of male infertility associated with oligospermia
Mechanism of Action
- Non-steroidal estrogen receptor modulator with weak estrogenic and anti-estrogenic properties.
- Binds to hypothalamic estrogen receptors, reducing negative feedback and stimulating the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).
- Increases pituitary secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) to promote ovulation or spermatogenesis.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cyclofenil or excipients
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Liver dysfunction or active hepatic disease
- Ovarian cysts not related to polycystic ovary syndrome
- Unexplained abnormal uterine bleeding
- Hormone-dependent tumors
Adverse Reactions
- Hot flushes
- Ovarian enlargement and hyperstimulation
- Abdominal or pelvic discomfort
- Nausea and vomiting
- Headache
- Visual disturbances (rare)
- Skin rashes
Drug Interactions
- May potentially antagonize the effects of exogenous estrogens or progestins.
- Potential pharmacokinetic interactions with hepatic enzyme inducers or inhibitors due to hepatic metabolism.
