Adult Dosing
- 1mg daily for male pattern baldness
- 5mg daily for benign prostatic hyperplasia
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for use in pediatric patients
- Safety and efficacy not established in patients under 18 years
Indications
- Treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia)
- Treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Mechanism of Action
- Selective inhibitor of 5-alpha-reductase
- Blocks conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
Contraindications
- Pregnancy
- Hypersensitivity to finasteride or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- Decreased libido
- Erectile dysfunction
- Ejaculation disorder
- Breast tenderness or enlargement
Drug Interactions
- Cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitors may increase finasteride levels
- Concomitant use with other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors not recommended
