Adult Dosing
- 1mg IM/IV for diagnostic testing of adrenal function
- 0.25-1mg every 12-24 hours for treatment of conditions requiring corticosteroid effect
Pediatric Dosing
- 0.125-0.25mg IM/IV for diagnostic testing of adrenal function
- Dosing regimens must be individualized and titrated
Indications
- Diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency
- Treatment of conditions requiring short-term corticosteroid effect
Mechanism of Action
- Stimulates release of cortisol and other hormones from adrenal cortex
- Acts on hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tetracosactide or other corticosteroids
- Corticosteroid-dependent conditions, except under close supervision
Adverse Reactions
- Anaphylaxis
- Adrenal crisis
- Hypersensitivity reactions
Drug Interactions
- Interacts with anticoagulants, may decrease coagulation
- Concomitant use with other corticosteroids may increase risk of adverse effects
