Forms & Strengths
- Capsules: 50mg, 75mg, 100mg
- Tablets: 20mg, 50mg, 75mg, 100mg, 150mg
- Syrup: 25mg/5ml
- Injection: 100mg/vial
Adult Dosing
- Acne: 50-100mg Every 12 hours
- Rosacea: 40mg/day
- UTI: 100mg Every 12 hours for 7 days
- Lyme disease: 100mg Every 12 hours for 10-30 days
Pediatric Dosing
- Children >8 years: 2-4mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours
- Malaria prophylaxis: 2mg/kg/day

- Acne
- Rosacea
- Urinary tract infections
- Respiratory tract infections
- Lyme disease
- Malaria prophylaxis
- Rickettsial infections
Mechanism of Action
- Binds to 30S ribosomal subunit
- Inhibits protein synthesis
- Exhibits bacteriostatic activity
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines
- Pregnancy
- Lactation
- Children <8 years

- Gastrointestinal upset
- Photosensitivity
- Allergic reactions
- Candidiasis
- Hepatotoxicity
- Esophageal ulcers
Drug Interactions
- Concurrent use with antacids reduces absorption
- Increases theophylline levels
- Interacts with warfarin to increase INR
- Concomitant use with isotretinoin may cause pseudotumor cerebri
