Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 250mg, 500mg
- Oral suspension: 125mg/5ml, 250mg/5ml
- Injectable: 500mg/vial, 1g/vial
Adult Dosing
- Uncomplicated infections: 250-500mg every 8-12 hours
- Severe infections: 500-1000mg every 6-8 hours
Pediatric Dosing
- Children > 12 years: 250-500mg every 8-12 hours
- Children 6-12 years: 125-250mg every 8-12 hours
- Children < 6 years: 10-20mg/kg every 8 hours
Indications
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute bronchitis
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Urinary tract infections
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins
- Bactericidal activity against susceptible organisms
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to aspoxicillin or other penicillins
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10ml/min)
Adverse Reactions
- Diarrhea
- Nausea and vomiting
- Allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, anaphylaxis)
- Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea
Drug Interactions
- Warfarin: increased INR, monitor closely
- Methotrexate: increased toxicity, avoid concomitant use
- Probenecid: decreased renal clearance, monitor serum levels
