meropenem and vaborbactam
J01DH52
Forms & Strengths
- Single-dose vials of meropenem and vaborbactam 1g/1g
- Single-dose vials of meropenem and vaborbactam 2g/2g
- Reconstituted solutions for intravenous infusion
Adult Dosing
- 4g (2g meropenem and 2g vaborbactam) every 8 hours
- Dose adjustment required in renal impairment
- Administer over 3 hours as an intravenous infusion
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for patients under 18 years
- No data available for pediatric use
Indications
- Complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI)
- Pyelonephritis
- Hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP)
- Ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP)
- Treatment of infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
Mechanism of Action
- Meropenem is a carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits cell wall synthesis
- Vaborbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects meropenem from degradation
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to meropenem, vaborbactam, or other carbapenems
- History of anaphylactic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics
Adverse Reactions
- Hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema, rash)
- Gastrointestinal events (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting)
- Infusion site reactions
- Increased liver enzymes
Drug Interactions
- Valproic acid: decreased valproic acid concentrations
- Other antibacterial agents: increased risk of nephrotoxicity
- Probenecid: decreased meropenem clearance
