Forms & Strengths
- Injection: 50mg, 100mg, 200mg
- Solution for injection: 50mg/mL, 100mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- 4mg/kg/day IV once daily for complicated skin and skin structure infections
- 4mg/kg/day IV once daily for hospital-acquired pneumonia
- 3mg/kg/day IV once daily for cystic fibrosis patients
Pediatric Dosing
- 6-7.5mg/kg/day IV divided every 8-12 hours for complicated intra-abdominal infections
- 6-7.5mg/kg/day IV divided every 8 hours for sepsis
Indications
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Hospital-acquired pneumonia
- Infections caused by multi-drug resistant gram-negative bacteria
- Cystic fibrosis patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections
Mechanism of Action
- Binds to 30S subunit of bacterial ribosome
- Interferes with protein synthesis
- Inhibits translocation and transcription processes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to arbekacin or other aminoglycosides
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Concurrent use with other nephrotoxic or ototoxic agents
Adverse Reactions
- Nephrotoxicity
- Ototoxicity
- Neuromuscular blockade
- Allergic reactions
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with diuretics
- Increased risk of ototoxicity with loop diuretics
- Concomitant use with neuromuscular blockers may enhance neuromuscular blockade
- Incompatible with beta-lactam antibiotics
